Tilly Hawkins creates posters inspired by the alienating effect of technology on modern life. Themes include language, pop culture, conspiracy theories, propaganda, nationalism, content fatigue, and mental illness. Decontextualising and revisioning the vernacular of social media communication, their work explores what becomes of these words and symbols when turned into an infinitely reproducible commodity – the digital art print. Bold and oversaturated, these images have a uniquely contemporary visual style with its roots in the 1990s, inspired by rave flyers, Japanese fashion magazines, and the design language of Web 1.0.
