Sara Impey in her studio

Sara makes textile artworks based on quiltmaking techniques, including stitched lettering using free-motion machine stitching. She made her first quilt in 1971 while still at school. With a background in languages and journalism, she writes her own texts, enabling her both to play with language and to use the textile surface to comment on contemporary issues. She exhibits nationally and internationally, and her work is in several public collections, including the Victoria & Albert Museum, the Museum of Arts & Design in New York and the International Quilt Museum in Nebraska.
