Jane Frederick with her husband Martin Bridges
Jane Frederick is an artist and garden seeker, formerly based in Colchester but now in Lincoln. She remains Essex Gardens Trust artist in residence, and her work can be viewed at Audley End House and Gardens, Essex. In 2020, Arts Council England supported the launch of the Garden Seekers Project in Felixstowe, where she became the first artist in residence at Hamilton MAS, the micro art space by the sea. Based on the recently restored Heritage Seafront Gardens post-lockdown, she developed a new body of paintings and drawings that celebrate and explore the community affections for the Victorian pleasure gardens. Formerly Head of Fine Art at Colchester School of Art, she established ‘The Drawing School’ at The Minories galleries in Colchester and continues to share her enthusiasm for drawing in the community, most recently leading Tour & Draw workshops in historical gardens and as a tutor for the V&A Museum. She has exhibited her work widely, including the B.P. Portrait Award at the National Portrait Gallery in London, at Firstsite Colchester and with The Royal Society of Portrait Painters at the Mall Galleries.
